| The Executive Director will be responsible, under the supervision of the Director, for overall administrative, financial (including fundraising), programmatic, communication, and management issues. The Executive Director will assist the Director in long-term strategic planning for the Program and will be responsible for overseeing the execution of that strategy.
The Executive Director will be expected to execute the fundraising, budgeting, communications, programmatic, and overall intellectual vision of the Program. The Executive Director will be expected to handle all administrative duties associated with the Program; organize conferences and workshops; help identify candidates for speakers at such events; develop, maintain, and contribute to the Program’s website; identify and apply for grants and other sources of funding; prepare the Program’s budget and ensure compliance with it; maintain a current knowledge in fields related to the Program and keep the Director updated accordingly; assist with the Academic Fellowship program; coordinate with relevant career services offices at HLS to provide students with information about careers in the area of animal law; develop and maintain connections with animal law-related organizations worldwide for purposes of helping to place students in internships; and build collaborative interdisciplinary research relationships with other schools at Harvard as well as other universities, research centers, and policy groups. The Executive Director will be the Program’s only employee and thus will be expected to perform all duties necessary to the Program’s functions, include duties that are purely administrative in nature. |

| A J.D. or equivalent degree and five or more years of experience in a field relevant to the responsibilities of the job. | |
| The applicant should have a deep knowledge of modern issues of animal law and policy; excellent organizational and leadership skills; the ability to work collaboratively with others; creativity; and the desire, ability, and commitment to help make the Program the leading animal law program worldwide. The applicant should be able to work successfully in an academic environment and have a strong sense of academic integrity and a commitment to the scholarly field of animal law. | |
| This position is half-time or three-fourths time, depending on the skill set and time availability of the successful applicant. The Program would like to increase the position to full time if adequate funds become available. This is a term appointment through June 30, 2016, with renewal, and potential increase to full-time status during that period, contingent upon funding and Program needs.
