WASHINGTON, D.C., January 8, 2024 – Brown Rudnick announced that Steven Tyrrell has joined the Firm’s Washington, D.C., office as a partner in the White Collar Defense, Investigations & Compliance group.

Tyrrell is a former federal prosecutor who spent 20 years at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), including in key leadership roles. His practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement matters and internal investigations. He previously was a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where he served as co-head of the firm’s global White Collar Defense, Regulatory and Investigations practice.

“I have known Steve for over a decade and have worked with him on various matters with outstanding results for clients,” said Steve Best, a former federal prosecutor and chair of the Firm’s White Collar Defense, Investigations & Compliance practice. “I am thrilled that Steve has chosen Brown Rudnick as his new professional home. I look forward to working with him here to serve our clients on their most complex and critical matters.”

At DOJ, Tyrrell served as chief of the Fraud Section from 2006 to 2009. In that role, he led the investigation, prosecution and coordination of a wide range of sophisticated economic crime matters and enforcement initiatives, including violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and matters involving corporate, securities, commodities and investment fraud, health care fraud, procurement fraud, stimulus and rescue fraud, mortgage fraud and identity theft. He also advised DOJ leadership on white collar crime-related legislation, crime prevention, public education and the DOJ’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force.

Prior to that role, Tyrrell served as deputy chief in the Counterterrorism Section of the DOJ’s Criminal Division, where he supervised a team of attorneys in connection with the investigation, prosecution and coordination of a variety of international terrorism and terrorist financing matters.

“Steve’s leadership and achievements truly stand out,” said Steve Wasserman, managing director of Brown Rudnick’s Dispute Resolution & Restructuring Department. “His experience and judgment will be a valuable asset to our Firm and our clients. Steve’s arrival further strengthens Brown Rudnick’s market-leading White Collar Defense practice.”

Tyrrell has been recognized by multiple leading publications, including as among the top 30 FCPA practitioners in the U.S. by Global Investigations Review. He is currently ranked in Chambers Global and Chambers USA as one of the leading lawyers nationally and in Washington, D.C., for white collar crime, government investigations and FCPA expertise.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Brown Rudnick and have the opportunity to once again work with Steve Best and his world-class white-collar defense team, for whom I have such high regard,” Tyrrell said. “I am eager to begin this new chapter of my career and continue helping clients solve their most pressing problems.”

Tyrrell received his J.D. from New York Law School and his B.A. from SUNY Oneonta.
