Finding the Right Lawyer for Veterans

Transitioning from military life back to civilian life can be incredibly difficult. You may experience PTSD or other mental disabilities because of your time in the military. You may also have to deal with any injuries you received while you were gone.

It’s possible that you’ll be relying on the VA to get you the benefits that you need. When they’re unreliable or unable to provide what they’ve previously stated they would, an attorney may need to step in and help.

Do I Need An Attorney?

A veteran attorney can help you get the most compensation possible for your VA benefits. They’ll argue on behalf of your case to ensure that you don’t get screwed out of the money that you deserve. You fought hard for this country, and you deserve to be fairly compensated for any damage being in the military may have caused you.

Hiring an attorney is the best way to make sure that you actually receive your compensation. Arguing with the VA on your own just won’t have the same result.

Look for a High Success Rate

When choosing an attorney, it’s okay to be picky. You deserve to have the best attorney represent your case, and that means you might have to speak with a few different law firms before you make your decision.

When looking at different law firms, you should look at their success rate with previous cases. If they don’t publish this information on their website, call and ask them about it. You don’t want to hire an attorney that doesn’t have a good track record.

Their Case Volume and Experience

You should also always ask about their case volume. Do they take on a lot of cases? How many attorneys work there? Do any of the other staff members help with the cases? It’s important to know this information because if their caseload is too high, they won’t have the time to give your case the attention that it deserves.

You’re better off choosing an attorney that has time for you and your case. An attorney that is too busy won’t have a good chance of winning your case, so don’t be afraid to ask about their caseload.

Ask Questions and Be Picky

During your free case evaluation, ask as many questions as possible to determine whether or not the attorney is the right fit for you. You’re more than welcome to talk to multiple attorneys before you make your final decision.

During all interactions with your potential attorney, you should take notes on their behavior. Were they nice to you on the phone? Are they veterans or do they have a lot of experience with veteran law? Did it take a long time to schedule an appointment? If they didn’t answer your call right away, did it take a long time to get in touch with them?

First impressions matter, so many sure you’re paying attention. If an attorney is flaky, bad at returning phone calls, or hard to schedule appointments with, they’ll likely continue to act this way after you’ve hired them.

It’s best to notice this behavior initially so you have the time to choose another attorney, one that will better suit your needs.

Hire an Attorney

Whether you’re looking for PTSD lawyers or help with veteran disability, hiring the right attorney can help determine the fate of your case. Hire an attorney that’s really going to stand by your side and ensure that you get the compensation that you deserve.

After you’ve chosen an attorney, you’ll be required to sign a contract with them, so make sure you’re certain that you want to hire them before you sign anything.
