Mr. RN Kovind becomes the 14th President of India

With a margin of 65.6% votes in his favor, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind became the 14th President of India, beating the opposing candidate, Ms. Meira Kumar.

The value of the vote of a Member of the Parliament is 708 and the value of the vote of an assembly member varies among the various states depending on the population.

Out of the total number of 10, 69, 576 votes, Mr. Kovind bagged votes of 522 Members of the Parlaiment, which can be calculated to a total number of 3, 69, 576 votes, while the opposing candidate managed to get the votes of merely 225 votes.

What was earlier termed to be an ideological battle, a battle of words, came to an end by a win, where Mr RN Kovind was a man who was handed the baton through a huge margin.

A lawyer by profession, Mr Kovind has impeccable credentials, where he has previously served as a member of several important Parliamentary Committees such as: Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Tribes, Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs, Parliamentary Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice, Chairman of Rajya Sabha House Committee.

He has also been served as the national spokesperson of the Party and has served as the Governor of Bihar and has also represented India at various international forums such as the United Nations in 2002.

The fact that the party that supported him has the highest representation in the Houses of the Parliament and is the ruling party along with the fact that he is a candidate from a caste which is still struggling to make a mark on the society, has worked to his advantage and has given him the encouragement and the votes that were needed.

In his first address to the nation, after the declaration of the results, he stated that he can familiarize with all those people who, like him are working in the rains and in such drastic conditions and called himself as the representative of all those people. He assured everyone that he will abide to the basic principles of the Constitution and always concentrate towards working for the people, thereby being a people’s President.

He will be sworn in by the Chief Justice of India on July 25, 2017 while the term of President Pranab Mukharjee will come to an end on July 24, 2017.
